Environmental data models - INSPIRE included!

In Europe a major recent development has been the entering in force of the
INSPIRE Directive, establishing an infrastructure for spatial information to support Community environmental policies, and policies or activities which may have an impact on the environment.
Currently meta data and data of Annex I (e.g. coordinate reference systems, geographical names, addresses, plots) are points of the agenda. This might by suggestive of thinking INSPIRE will be the topic of surveying and mapping agencies.
As a matter of fact the geographical data is basis for the upcoming thematical data services, especially for the environment. INSPIRE has ignited the consolidation of environmental varied, non-coordinated data pools and structures.
Environmental data are mass-produced data subjected to dynamic and extensive expert processing and administration:
- Permanently change of requests and demands of data to be captured and processed
- Interdisciplinary analyses, frequently addicted to political requirements
- Generation and administration of time-referenced data
To accomodate the dynamic of the data envVision Service SDI was built up as an environmental data structure model:
- New objects and new alliances in between the objects can be supplemented at any time
- Detached objects can be shaped to specific scenarios, reporting programs, like ArcGIS® can be added by user
- envVision contains a versioning concept permitting the administration of environmental situations and planning achievements in local database versions
envVision Service SDI is based on a standardised centralised data model, comprehensive as a data reception:
- Data will be collected and interdisciplinary processed for further use
- Data will be structured and coded to be extended interdisciplinary
On occasion the data can be provided for requests but first of all for the handling in environmental departments ─ ready for INSPIRE!
